Rabbit Bartholomew is one of Australia’s most recognizable surfers; A champion whose achievements are matched by his lifelong contributions to the sport.

Born and raised on the Gold Coast, Bugs learnt to surf at Coolangatta's reeling right hand points where he duelled with Australia’s best. Kirra's intense throaty barrels helped Rabbit to perfect his tube riding technique for surfing's biggest stage, Hawaii. In the seventies Rabbit and a bunch of other Aussies and South Africans burst onto the scene in Hawaii, pushing each other to go deeper and take off later. They redefined competitive surfing and laid a legacy that still stands today.

The same crew later formed the first World Surfing tour and Rabbit went on to win the 1978 World Title. He stayed in the top five for eight consecutive seasons, winning comps and travelling the world before retiring in the late eighties.

In 1993 Rabbit became the National Coaching Director for Surfing Australia, overseeing the then brand new Australian Champion Circuit and worked closely with the ASP to establish an Australian leg of the World Tour.

In 1999 Rabbit was appointed President of the ASP and proved he was as competitive as ever by winning the ASP World Masters Title.

In 2009 after 10 years on the job and after forming what is now know as the "Dream Tour" Rabbit stepped down as President of The ASP.
