Paige scores another fifth

Paige was up against defending World Champion Stephanie Gilmore (AUS) in the quaterfinals match up early on in the day.  Good conditions gave the organisers a 10.00am start time at San Bartolo.

Paige took breifly held an early lead in her heat before Stephanie got into action with a 6.73 point ride - what was to be the highest of the heat.  Paige fought back with a 5.33 keeping the World Champ within grasp.  Stephanie answered back with a 5.13 to stretch the lead late in the heat leaving Paige out the back with priority and a chance of victory.  In the dying stages of the final Paige got a wave requiring 6.54 for the win.  After the hooter sounded the score came in just short - Paige posting a 5.17 and finishing second.

Paige is yet to beat Gilmore in her two years on tour despite being one of the few surfers that have pushed her to the limit on several occasions.

Gilmore was eliminated in the subsequent round by event winner Silvana Lima (BRZ) who defeated Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS) in the final.

The fifth place will help Paige's world ranking when they are released later today.  It is likely paige will move up one placing to ninth equal alongside Rebecca Woods (AUS).

Paige will now take a four month break on the ASP Women's World Tour before the sixth event in Portugal in early October.  In the mean time she will fill her time with three major six star events in the USA, Azores Islands and Spain.
